A Vocabulary Retention System That Prevents Fast Forgetting
Ha My••8 min read
Forgetting vocabulary quickly is normal when words are learned in isolation. Long-term retention requires repeated use in meaningful context.
Each new word should include three memory layers: collocation, personal example sentence, and a realistic usage scenario. This creates stronger recall cues than list memorization.
A practical review cycle is 1 day, 3 days, 7 days, and 14 days using active recall first and answer checking second. Flashcards work better when examples are specific and personal.
At the end of each week, force output by speaking or writing with target words. Output is the bridge between recognition and real communication.
