The Parent-Student Study Contract That Reduces Conflict
Lan Anh••8 min read
Many families struggle not because students are unwilling, but because expectations are unclear. A study contract turns emotional reminders into a clear operating system with defined responsibilities.
Keep it one page with five parts: 4-week target, study schedule, tracking metrics, rewards for consistency, and consequences for missed commitments.
The weekly 20-minute check-in is the most important ritual. Use it to discuss blockers, adjust priorities, and identify what support is needed instead of focusing on blame.
After four weeks, evaluate what worked and reset the contract. This approach is especially effective for middle and high school students developing self-management skills.
