How to Choose a Major Using Strength Signals, Not Trends
Huy Tran••9 min read
Trend-driven choices may feel exciting, but they often break down after one or two semesters. A stronger method is to map your strength signals: where you improve fast, stay engaged longer, and receive repeated positive feedback.
Track activities for eight weeks with three columns: what you did, post-task energy, and measurable result. Patterns become clear when data is captured consistently.
Then test three possible major directions through short 2-3 week mini-projects. This creates real evidence before making a long-term academic decision.
The goal is not perfect certainty. The goal is choosing a direction backed by personal data, which increases long-term commitment and growth.
